For the last three years I have been working at Reality+ on the Mobile/PC game "Doctor Who Worlds Apart".
As a junior 3D generalist and VFX Artist I was responsible for concepting and developing VFX sequences for the game.
With the fist few drafts of the boxes made I was able to start putting ideas together about the VFX.
I knew I wanted to go with a dry ice/fog look.
I then began concepts for how content would be generated out the box.
I wanted to do something high tech as we had previously leaned into more ethereal visuals for other work.
The next step was considering the motion itself. Where was the card going? How long would that take.
It became clear with these questions that the visuals were too complex.
With multiple cards all this going on would be visual noise.
Overall I was able to communicate a solid vision for the code team to start thinking about feature requests.
